Recorded by V. P. & R. G. Wasson in Huautla de Jiménez, in the Mazatec Mountains in the northern corner of the State of Oaxaca, 1956. The husband and wife team were for many years engaged in the field of ethno-mycology, researching the role played by wild mushrooms in various human cultures. When they learned that many American Indian ethnic groups in Mexico considered certain species of mushroom as the key to divine communication, the pair undertook a series of expeditions to Southern Mexico to learn about this practice. This record is the result of their recorded mushroom rite sessions with a local shaman.
Detailed liner notes include complete lyric transcriptions with translations.
