In Hot days in camp Hansen, Japanese photographer Mao Ishikawa documents her intimate circle of female friends, most of whom worked as bar hostesses in Okinawa, and their G.I. boyfriends, lovers or acquaintances. The bars of Okinawa were racially segregated and Ishikawa's photographs were captured in 'coloureds only' establishments. The series made between 1975–7, bravely displayed forbidden relationships between the local girls and the American G.I.s. After the books publication some of Ishikawa's friends felt uneasy about their portrayal in the book, she therefore cut out six pages from all the copies she had, including this copy, so that complete copies of the book are almost non-existent.
