Artist Setarah Shahbazi was born in Tehran in the late 1970's. At the age of seven due to ongoing conflict in Iran she was moved to Germany with only a small box of photographs, leaving behind her home, possessions and family. After studying Media Art she moved to Beirut to research the photographic archives at the Arab Image Foundation, it was here whilst handling delicately preserved images with gloves in a temperature controlled room that she was inspired to create the work in “Spectral Days”. She took her small collection of childhood photographs and applied an approach many would deem reckless, cutting and morphing the images so their story becomes muddled and blurred. The result of her edit is rebellious, yet tentative and visually stimulates a psychedelic trip through lost moments.
