This was Hashiguichi's first published work after winning the Taiyo photography award in 1981. 'We Can't Stay Anywhere - Wild Teens of the World' is a wonderful document about disaffected youth subcultures across the globe. Hashiguichi began in Tokyo and then travelled West to Nuremberg, Berlin, London, Liverpool and finally New York. The eighties was a time that saw many subcultures flourish, American had an emerging hip-hop scene whilst places like England continued to have a strong punk influences. The photographs reveal the different clothes and uniforms each subculture identified themselves with and the discontent each group shared.
