At 222 pages, this book presents a collection of harrowing but beautifully printed photographs of citizens affected by the Minamata Disease between the 1950's and 1960's in Minamata, south-west Japan. In this small fishing village the health of its residents suffered terribly from seizures, disfigurements and defects after their daily diet of seafood was contaminated by waste mercury dumped by a nearby chemical plant into the sea surrounding their village. One of the worst industrial disasters of the 20th Century.
