This is Gerry Jonansson's latest book and completes the eighteen year series of books which saw Johansson travel through locations such as America and Mongolia. As the title would suggest the current work is centred in Germany. The book is a visual encyclopedia of rural and urban German landscapes, ordered alphabetically. The black and white photographs present quiet contemplating scenes that despite containing no human figures do explore German history. The themes within the work are complimented by the production and design of the book. Each image sits on the page hauntingly surrounded by white space and the small but chunky size adds to the feel that the book contains an unprecedented amount of visual information.
