‘I am interested in the way that time records itself into things and people’ – Miyako Ishiuchi
Long interested in the body, mortality and the passage of time, in 2007 Miyako Ishiuchi turned her lens towards items of clothing worn by the victims of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Held in the permanent collection of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, these tattered garments quietly signify the unspeakable violence that was inflicted on their former inhabitants.
