The photographs in this book show a selection of magnificent, completed bridges. Nothing of the arduous construction process is revealed, and almost no stagnant bridge traffic is visible in the photos. The brief preface to the book states that the working class should exemplify the revolutionary spirit of the maxim "Self reliance and arduous struggle," which suggests a lack of foreign input - engineering or otherwise- and the expectation of hardship.
