The last decade has seen a major reappraisal of the role and status of the book within the history of photography. China has a fascinating history of photography publishing, and The Chinese Photobook reveals for the first time the richness and diversity of this heritage. Based on a collection compiled over eight years by Thijs groot Wassink, Ruben Lundgren and Martin Parr, the book covers key volumes – ranging from the early 20th century through to the present day – which together offer a rich and multifaceted perspective on the complicated history of modern China.
